From mine-D

Welcome to Fishbone's fan site, "TSUNAMI WO OKOSE!!" which means "Let's get a BIG WAVE raised!" in Japanese. i'm mine-D, one of the administrators of this site. i introduce this name with expectations of raising a BIG WAVE of Fishbone's music here in Japan. Yeah!

It's been a long time since i was firstly hit by their music. In spite of the fact they've been keeping on creating a great music, they are forced to face the reality that their music wasn't commercially accepted by the market, in the USA, in Japan, too. The reason i raised this site was to change the situation like this by letting people understand how great this band is. And as one of their fan, this is all i can do to cheer them up.

Let me talk about my story with this band. The first album i listened to was "Truth and Soul." i was 22, i believe. Till that age, i was not a rock music fan. But at that time, i started my journey to the Western rock music by learning Beatles, Jimi Hendlix, Led Zeppelin and so on. On the other hand, i also started to chase the new movement taking around L.A. like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, and Fishbone. RHCP...by seeing their show accidentally, i came to their fan and now i'm running their fan site. Jane's Addiction...that band sounded a little bit "Heavy Metallic," but the sound hit me because i was expecting something hard. But with regard to Fishbone, i couldn't understand well its charms at the first time. Heavy tune like "Freddie's Dead" or danceable ska tunes were OK to me, but rest of the album was mere a question for me. But, the deeper i listened to it the better i understood the charms of this album step by step. The mixture of variety of music, the base of black music like soul, funk, R&B, the social message they had, and the punk spirit thuru the entire of Fishbone's music... i became a prisoner of the music they created. i purchased the first and second album, and also came to love their early sound of ska, punk color.

The first show i experienced was of "Truth and Soul" tour. Since the hall in which they played was with seats, the show was not so crazy just like you see in small clubs, standing. But it was truly a great show. i could feel how great they were enough. After that, i often saw their show every time they came to Japan, the all shows i saw were wonderful. i've never seen a poor show of Fishbone.

Fishbone released "The Reality of my Surroundings," "Give a monkey a brain..." which were pretty heavy in sounds. My enthusiasm to this band increased at that time. The time around these two albums was the peak for me and i thought Fishbone would "break." i thought they would succeed in terms of commercial, too and would be more popular... But, for some personal reasons, i sold all of my CDs and videos. i quitted to listen to rock music. That was about 1994. Later i became to know Fishbone at that time faced the reality that their CDs were not sold much.

Since then i rarely bought rock CD, has been far from the information or news of rock music. So i never even know the fact the release of "Chim Chim's Badass Revenge," withdrawal of some members. But from 2000 i started kind of "rehabilitation" to rock music and opened the fansite of RHCP. Under this circumstance, i heard the news that saying "Fishbone will release their new album," "But many members have already gone," which were quite complex to me. Plus, i heard they were coming to Japan in order to participate in Fuji Rock Festival. Therefore, my enthusiasm to this band suddenly came around.

"Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx," the album, was rather mild to me, but the natural flavor of this band exists, i felt. But after i went to see their show when they came to Japan in November 2000, i came to feel "Nothing has changed in Fishbone" strongly. Even the drastic change of members didn't change the sounds of the band, and there was no decline of aging. That was really crazy show. The experience of this 2000 show drove me to open this site directly, i believe. Fishbone is red hot still now. Fishbone is NOT dead.

Well, thanks to the meeting with moggee, who is very strong partner, i managed to open a Fishbone's fansite here. We have some contents such as, history of the band, members, album reviews, and charms of the band. We hope you'll enjoy these. And we'll be very pleased if you mail us or leave a message to the BBS.

Last but not least, we're very thankful to the people who helped us by offering some archives, information, and advises. Thank you very much to...Aru, Wakachi, Kenji, mojo, and B-bo who drew a great illustration of the top page, and peon who wrote CGI scripts on the "News" page. And of course, i, mine-D thank moggee(who is the co-administrator, the craziest Fishbone freak in Japan!) from bottom of my heart. Thanks! Literally, this site ain't exist without the help of them. Enjoy this site! Love.(mine-D)
