The album which was released after an interval of four years. During these years, Fish and John Bigham also left the band and finally the members of Fishbone became Angelo, Norwood, and Dirty Walt. From this album, new members of three...such as Spacy-T, John McKnight, John Steward joined the band and more, a variety of guests come and play, such as George Clinton, HR from Bad Brains, Perry Farrell, Flea and John Frusciante and Chad Smith... Maybe because of this cooperation works, the name of this album is credited as "Fishbone and the Familyhood Nextperience." Talking about its sounds, i simply feel it got "mild" a little. The expressions of heavy-rock which we could see in "The Reality of my Soroundings," "Give a Monkey a Brain..." disapeared and this album, is full of rather relaxing tunes such as reggae, mid-tempo ska, R&B... However, their original features never lose their tastes such as, good melody, groove. If i point out some personal favorite songs in this album, 1st tune "Shakey Ground" which has a slow groove and obviously be effected by P-Funk. "Everybody Is A Star," the cover of the song of Sly & The Family Stone, who had a common sense of attitude with Fishbone, and in this song many guest vocals, George Clinton at the head of the list. And swinging "Karma Tsunami," which is so cool. We may feel something "soft" in this album and think there's no particular emotional explosion in it. But, this album could be said this is their "re-start" after getting over their crisis. When they came to Japan to appear in "Fuji Rock Festival" in summer 2000, Norwood talked about this album answering the interview by the magazine called "Juice." It's like this... It's kind of like a new beginning for Fishbone - so taking those things into consideration, we've kind of brought it back to the beginning - but it also taps into the future of where we are heading. i think this album is kind of a "Showcase" in the meaning it shows the presence of the band as it is. Anyway, the sounds in this album would be the "new" starting point for Fishbone. i don't know which way their music style is going to, but it must be the same at the point it is full of worthy. In fact, Fishbone ain't die. They're gonna be rocking more and more. |
